Who is responsible for the water supply pipe?
The water company is responsible for the supply pipe up to the boundary of your property. You are responsible for the pipe from the boundary into your property including the internal stopcock. We handle the section on your land.
How do I know if my water main is leaking?
Signs include a patch of unusually green or lush grass, a wet or boggy area in the garden or driveway, reduced water pressure, a water meter that runs when no taps are on, or water appearing at ground level.
Do I need to dig up my drive to repair the supply pipe?
We try to minimise excavation. If the leak is under a driveway we may be able to trench alongside it or use moleing to pull a new pipe through. We discuss the access plan with you before starting any work.
Can you replace a lead supply pipe?
Yes. We replace the internal section of lead supply pipe with new blue MDPE. The water company is responsible for the section from the street main to your boundary. Some water companies offer free or subsidised lead pipe replacement schemes.
How long does a water main repair take?
A straightforward repair on an accessible MDPE pipe takes two to three hours including excavation and reinstatement. Replacement of a whole supply pipe takes a day.
Will my insurance cover a water main leak?
Check your policy. Some home insurance policies cover underground service pipes including the water supply pipe. We provide a report for your insurer detailing the location and cause of the leak.
