How long does a waste disposal installation take?
A like for like swap of an existing waste disposal unit takes under an hour. A first time installation takes two to three hours because electrical wiring needs to be run from a nearby socket to a new fused connection unit.
Does a waste disposal need an electrician?
The waste disposal connects to the sink waste which is plumbing work. The electrical supply to a fused connection unit is electrical work. Our plumbers can connect to an existing fused spur. If a new circuit is needed you may need an electrician.
Can I have a waste disposal with a septic tank?
Generally no. Waste disposals are not recommended for properties with septic tanks because the ground up food waste can overload the tank and cause drainage field problems.
What cannot go in a waste disposal?
Do not put bones, fruit stones, coffee grounds in large quantities, pasta, rice, grease, oil, fat, fibrous vegetables like celery and onion skins. These can jam the unit or block the waste pipe.
Can you remove my old waste disposal?
Yes. We disconnect the old unit, cap the electrical supply safely and remove the unit. We can fit a standard sink waste in its place if you do not want a replacement.
