Common questions about Hive smart thermostat installation
What is the difference between Hive and other smart thermostats?
Hive is designed to be simple and easy to use. The app is intuitive. It works with Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple HomeKit. Hive also integrates with other Hive smart home products like lights, plugs and sensors.
Does Hive need a subscription?
No. Hive does not require a monthly subscription. The app control, scheduling and geolocation features are all free. You only pay for the hardware and installation.
Can Hive control hot water as well as heating?
Yes. The Hive dual channel version controls both heating and hot water for system boilers with a hot water cylinder. You can set separate schedules for each and boost the hot water from the app.
What happens if my internet goes down?
The Hive thermostat continues to work as a manual thermostat if the internet goes down. You can adjust the temperature on the thermostat itself. The app control and remote access will not work until internet is restored.
Can I add Hive radiator valves later?
Yes. Hive radiator valves can be added to an existing Hive system at any time. They work with the same hub and app. We can install Hive radiator valves on individual radiators or the whole house.
How long does Hive installation take?
A standard Hive Active Heating installation takes about one to two hours. This includes fitting the receiver by the boiler, mounting the thermostat, connecting the hub and setting up the app with you.
